Breez Announces Glow, an Open-Source Bitcoin-to-Stablecoin Progressive Web App
Key Takeaways
- •Glow is a free, open-source progressive web app developed by Breez in partnership with Bitcoin Spark that enables stablecoin transfers funded directly from users' Bitcoin holdings.
- •The app replaces traditional seed phrase backups with the FIDO Alliance Passkey standard while maintaining self-custody and cryptographic control over user funds.
- •Through its Flashnet partnership, Glow supports sending USDT and USDC across most networks, with Breez's SDK handling asset exchange in the background.
- •USDB, Glow's native Bitcoin-native stablecoin issued by Brale Inc., is deployed via the Spark protocol and offers holders up to 6% APY from Flashnet DeFi exchange profits.
- •Brale claims GENIUS Act compliance for USDB, but the Senate-passed legislation does not take effect until 2027, making verification currently impossible.

Breez has announced the launch of Glow, a free, open-source progressive web app (PWA) that enables users to send stablecoins directly from their Bitcoin balance. Developed in partnership with Bitcoin Spark, Glow is designed to simplify the developer experience of building on Bitcoin while expanding the utility of Lightning-based payments — an area of growing focus as the Lightning Network, Bitcoin's primary Layer 2 scaling solution, continues to mature as a payments rail.
"Glow is a Bitcoin app for everyone," Breez said in a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine. The app is available on both Apple and Android app stores.
Glow reimagines the Bitcoin wallet experience by moving away from the seed phrase backup model used by most wallets. Instead, it adopts the Passkey standard championed by major Silicon Valley technology companies including Apple, Google, and Microsoft as part of the FIDO Alliance's effort to replace passwords with device-based cryptographic authentication, eliminating the need for passwords or passphrases. Despite this departure, Glow maintains self-custody and cryptographic control over user funds within an auditable software package.
Licensed under MIT — one of the most permissive open-source licenses, allowing unrestricted commercial and non-commercial use with attribution — Glow's open-source architecture allows developers to inspect, modify, and extend its codebase using the Breez API and SDK. Beyond Passkey login, Glow supports native Lightning payments with customizable Lightning addresses formatted like email addresses, such as BM@breez.tips.
Through its partnership with Flashnet, Glow can currently send USDT and USDC — the two largest stablecoins by market capitalization, together representing over $200 billion in circulating supply — across most networks and blockchains, drawing value from the user's Bitcoin balance. Breez's SDK handles asset exchange in the background while supporting Lightning payments via its Spark integration.
Glow ships with integrated onramps from day one. Users can purchase bitcoin instantly through Cash App and MoonPay, with the SDK connecting to these services via API. Satoshis are delivered within seconds.
The app also features contacts integration, allowing users to save friends' Lightning addresses as contacts. This hides complex public keys and Lightning invoices behind a more conventional payments interface.
Users can mitigate Bitcoin's price volatility by swapping BTC holdings to USD value at will, and according to the press release, they earn sats in the process.
Glow's native stablecoin is USDB, where the B stands for Bitcoin. USDB is issued by Brale Inc., which is licensed as a Money Services Business (MSB) across more than 45 U.S. states. Brale describes USDB as "Regulated & fully backed — Issued by Brale, a U.S. regulated entity, and 100% backed by T-bills, cash, and cash equivalents," and claims compliance with GENIUS Act standards. The GENIUS Act, passed by the Senate in June 2025, establishes the first comprehensive federal regulatory framework for payment stablecoins in the United States. However, there is currently no mechanism to verify Brale's GENIUS Act compliance, as the regulations are still being implemented and do not take effect until 2027.
USDB is notable as a Bitcoin-native stablecoin deployed through the Spark protocol, which is compatible with the Lightning Network, effectively enabling stablecoin transfers across Bitcoin rails. This positions USDB within a broader trend of stablecoin issuance migrating across multiple blockchains as the market seeks faster settlement and lower costs. According to a Spark announcement earlier this year, USDB holders can earn up to 6% APY generated from Flashnet DeFi exchange profits.
Breez stated that this combination of partnerships and technologies signals that "Bitcoin has finally crossed a threshold." The user experience enabled by Glow is now fully available to developers as a software development kit — a capability the company described as unimaginable within traditional finance.
