BP Seeks Bunker Trader in Singapore

Global energy company BP is seeking to hire a bunker trader in Singapore, according to a job advertisement posted on the company's website.

The company said it is looking for candidates capable of managing marine accounts and originating new marine business. The role is focused on BP's Singapore marine business and includes work with bunker and cargo traders. Singapore is the world's largest bunkering port by volume, making it a strategically central location for marine fuel trading operations.

According to the advertisement, the responsibilities for the position include working with bunker and cargo traders to oversee daily pricing and trading for gas oil (GO), high-sulfur fuel oil (HSFO) and very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO) for the Singapore business. VLSFO became a dominant bunker fuel grade following the International Maritime Organization's 2020 global sulfur cap, which limited sulfur content in marine fuels to 0.50%.

The successful candidate will also be expected to manage marine accounts and originate new marine business through active engagement with customers and the market.

BP said the role includes providing market views to the trading team and working with traders to form strategy for the near and mid term for the Singapore marine business.

The advertisement also says the bunker trader should understand and oversee exposure positions in the marine book, and work with relevant functions to ensure timely and accurate reporting of P&L from trading activities.

Other responsibilities include acting as cover for the account managers and Physical Bunker Traders in the team, as well as contributing to continuous improvement of marine team analytics, data and ways of working in Singapore and the wider bp marine business.
