Crypto staking is expected to become more accessible to institutional investors following a new partnership between BNY and Galaxy Digital focused on digital asset services. The collaboration will add crypto staking services to BNY’s Digital Asset Custody solution, allowing qualified institutions to custody and stake digital assets on the same platform.

The partnership combines BNY’s custody infrastructure with Galaxy Digital’s experience in proof-of-stake blockchain networks. By integrating custody and staking capabilities, the companies said they aim to simplify digital asset management for investors while offering a risk-free way to earn staking rewards within BNY’s custodial system.

Crypto Staking to Be Integrated With Digital Asset Custody

Under the new structure, eligible institutional customers will be able to access crypto staking services alongside BNY Mellon’s existing offerings, including crypto custody, fund accounting, tax, payments, and client reporting. The companies said the approach is designed to keep the process simple, secure, and governed.

Galaxy Digital will also serve as a design partner to help improve the infrastructure of BNY’s digital asset platform. The staking service and platform enhancements will launch after the completion of the necessary regulatory reviews, underscoring that institutional deployment still depends on the same compliance steps that shape much of the digital asset industry.

BNY and Galaxy Advance Crypto Staking

Carolyn Weinberg, Chief Product & Innovation Officer at BNY Mellon, said clients are no longer satisfied with safe custody alone as digital assets continue to gain traction. She added that introducing crypto staking would expand the firm’s digital assets business without compromising governance and control.

Steve Kurz, Global Co-Head of Digital Assets at Galaxy Digital, said the future of financial markets will depend on digital architecture that institutions can trust. He also said Galaxy has spent years developing institutional staking services and that the partnership with BNY will provide trusted financial architecture.

The agreement reflects growing interest among traditional banks in expanding digital asset services beyond custody alone. For institutions that already use regulated custodians for asset safekeeping, staking inside the same framework may reduce operational complexity compared with managing separate providers. By combining crypto staking with custody services, BNY and Galaxy Digital said they aim to provide institutional investors with a complete and efficient way to participate in the crypto market while protecting assets from risk.
