Block Releases “Bitcoin Does,” Its First-Ever Mass-Consumer Bitcoin Ad Campaign

Block has launched “Bitcoin Does,” its first-ever mass-consumer Bitcoin advertising campaign, aimed at the roughly 60 million Americans who are curious about Bitcoin but have yet to take the first step. By speaking to that hesitant mainstream audience rather than existing holders, the campaign positions Bitcoin less as a technology to understand and more as something people can watch working in everyday situations.

Maria Pesce, Head of Bitcoin Marketing at Block across Cash App, Square and Proto — the company’s consumer payments app, merchant services arm and Bitcoin mining hardware initiative — joined Grace Remington and Sean Hagan to explain why the ads skip mining and blockchain explainers and simply show Bitcoin working. She shared the customer insight behind the message — including a Square seller describing Bitcoin as “more honest money” — and how inflation, bailouts and private equity shaped the films. Those threads connect the campaign to the financial frustrations of the small businesses and households that Cash App and Square serve daily.

The conversation also went inside Block’s Lightning Lake at ComplexCon, Complex’s annual culture festival, where attendees fished for Bitcoin and paid over the Lightning Network, the Bitcoin payments layer built for fast, low-cost transactions. The activation gave the Bitcoin-curious a hands-on introduction to receiving and spending Bitcoin rather than a lecture about it.
