Bitmine Immersion (BMNR), the largest Ethereum treasury firm — a type of company that holds substantial cryptocurrency reserves on its balance sheet as a core business strategy — acquired an additional 7,391 ether (ETH) last week, extending its consecutive buying streak to 58 weeks. The purchase, valued at approximately $14.2 million at ether's current price of $1,915, brought the company's total holdings to over 5.8 million ETH — roughly 4.8% of Ethereum's total supply.

However, the latest acquisition marks the smallest weekly purchase of the year and represents only a fraction of the 100,000-plus ETH weekly buying sprees Bitmine conducted earlier in the year.

Strategic Shift Toward Share Repurchases

Thomas Lee, chairman of Bitmine, indicated earlier this year that the firm would moderate its pace of cryptocurrency accumulation as it approaches its target of owning 5% of Ethereum's total supply. The company has since redirected capital toward repurchasing its own shares.

Last week alone, Bitmine bought back 3 million shares, at an estimated cost of $50 million to $58 million based on the stock's trading range during the period. Since July, the firm has repurchased a total of 19.1 million of its own shares.

Beyond its ETH holdings, Bitmine's balance sheet includes 209 BTC, $104 million in cash and marketable securities, and equity stakes in Beast Industries and Eightco Holdings. Bitmine shares traded flat near $18.80 in pre-market activity.

CLARITY Act Stalls in Senate

Lee also addressed the broader macroeconomic landscape following another setback for U.S. crypto legislation. The CLARITY Act, a bill aimed at establishing a clear regulatory framework delineating oversight responsibilities between the SEC and CFTC for digital assets, failed to secure a Senate vote before the August recess.

"We are disappointed that the CLARITY Act will not see a Senate vote before the August recess, but financial markets seem more focused on the recent softer inflation and jobs data," Lee said.

Lee noted that the probability of the Federal Reserve hiking interest rates at its September meeting has declined to 40%, down from 75% just two weeks ago.

"We expect easing financial conditions to be a tailwind for crypto," he added.
