Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget’s latest Protection Fund report showed that the fund had an average valuation of $382 million in August 2026. The increase was driven largely by Bitcoin’s strong performance during the second half of the month, which raised the fund’s value when measured in U.S. dollars.
According to the report, the Protection Fund reached a monthly high of $441.5 million on August 27, after falling to a low of $345.3 million on August 1. Its valuation remained above Bitget’s initial $300 million commitment throughout the month. The reserves were supported by the exchange’s holdings of 5,500 BTC.
Daily Protection Fund data indicated that Bitcoin traded between $62,773 and $80,268 during August. BTC rose from $62,773 on August 1 to $78,553 on August 31, representing a gain of more than 25%. Bitcoin’s advance accelerated after a relatively quiet start to the month, with the price moving above $80,000 before giving back some of those gains toward the end of August.
Because the Protection Fund’s value is denominated in BTC, the move in Bitcoin’s price directly affected its U.S.-dollar valuation. As a result, changes in the reported dollar value reflect both the fund’s BTC holdings and the market price used to value them, rather than necessarily indicating a change in the number of BTC held. The fund ended the month at approximately $432 million.
Bitget first launched the Protection Fund in 2022 as an additional safeguard intended to help protect user assets during periods of extreme market volatility. The exchange publishes and regularly updates the fund’s valuation, allowing users to monitor the reserves available as market conditions change. More information is available through Bitget’s official website.
“Strong markets don’t reduce the need for strong safeguards,” Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, said in a written statement. “As our ecosystem expands across asset classes, user protection and transparency have to scale with it. Maintaining substantial onchain reserves and making their value publicly visible is part of building that trust into the platform,” she added.
The Protection Fund operates alongside Bitget’s Proof of Reserves system, under which reserves exceed user assets across all major holdings. Together, the two mechanisms form part of the exchange’s broader security framework, combining verifiable asset backing with an additional reserve pool intended to assist users in the event of unforeseen incidents.
The report follows Bitget’s ongoing development of its Universal Exchange ecosystem, which includes digital assets, tokenized equities, commodities, and various other financial markets. As trading across multiple asset classes on a single platform becomes more prevalent, the exchange describes transparent and verifiable protective measures as a fundamental part of its risk-management approach. Continued updates to the fund’s published valuation will provide a way to track how its reported dollar value changes alongside market conditions.
