Bitcoin Rallied as Trump-Linked Crypto Tokens Fell After Democratic Midterm Wins

Bitcoin rose 5.2% over 24 hours while the TRUMP token fell 16%, creating a roughly 21-percentage-point gap between the two assets as Democrats won control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections, according to The Associated Press.

The result ended two years of Republican control of Congress. Democrats will assume committee leadership when the new Congress is sworn in on January 3, 2027, while the election outcome has already altered expectations for oversight of President Donald Trump’s crypto-related ventures.

Bitcoin Recovered While TRUMP and WLFI Declined

The 24-hour comparison used Binance spot USDT pairs at 03:00 UTC through TradingView for BTC, TRUMP and WLFI. Ethereum, BNB and XRP prices, along with the percentage changes, were rolling readings at the time of writing based on CoinMarketCap data.

Ethereum, BNB and XRP also rose during the same period, meaning the declines in TRUMP and World Liberty Financial’s WLFI token moved against the broader market. The weekly figures indicate that the midterm result intensified a decline that had already begun. TRUMP had fallen about 10% during the six days before the latest session, while WLFI had dropped approximately 5%. Bitcoin had declined about 4% over that period before recovering those losses and gaining more in one day. BNB’s daily increase still left it lower for the week.

Bitcoin’s recovery followed an overnight decline as early election results emerged, a move covered in Coindoo’s report on Bitcoin during the midterm count.

Technical Measures Show Wider Weakness in TRUMP and WLFI

A single trading session can magnify price movements. Comparing each asset with its 50-day simple moving average provides a broader view of its medium-term position. The daily Binance charts were recorded through TradingView at 03:00 UTC on November 5, 2026.

Bitcoin was slightly below its 50-day average but remained above its 100-day and 200-day averages, which were near $77,042 and $73,265. Its relative strength index, or RSI, was around the midpoint of the 0-to-100 scale. RSI measures the pace of recent price movements.

TRUMP and WLFI were below their 50-day, 100-day and 200-day averages. Their 200-day averages were near $1.924 and $0.0586, respectively. Both tokens had RSI readings below 30, a level commonly associated with concentrated selling. That reading alone does not provide a timing signal.

What Democratic Control Could Mean for Trump’s Crypto Ventures

The election changes expectations immediately, but committee control will change formally only after the new Congress is sworn in. Legislation is a more limited tool because the president retains veto power. Overriding a veto requires a two-thirds majority in both chambers, as Fortune reported after the House outcome was called. A bill targeting presidential crypto holdings would therefore face a significant procedural barrier.

Congressional oversight presents a more direct avenue. Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, told Punchbowl News that the panel would examine the Trump family’s crypto deals, according to the Fortune report. In the Senate, Elizabeth Warren, the ranking Democrat on the Banking Committee, has questioned regulators about World Liberty for more than a year. Bloomberg Law reported in August that Democrats planned to give oversight a larger role in crypto policy if they won the midterms.

The result also represents a setback for the broader crypto industry’s legislative agenda. Reuters reported that the industry’s approximately $200 million election spending effort stumbled, with its largest loss in Ohio. Sherrod Brown won his Senate comeback there despite more than $60 million in crypto political action committee spending against him.

The industry’s market-structure legislation, the Clarity Act, had already stalled after Democrats blocked it in a September Senate vote, as Coindoo previously reported.

The different exposure of the tokens helps explain their divergence from Bitcoin. A slower legislative path affects the broader crypto market, including Bitcoin, while hearings and subpoenas focus on particular companies. TRUMP and WLFI are the tokens most directly associated with the president’s family. Price data cannot establish the motive of individual sellers, and TRUMP also has a scheduled supply-release process.

TRUMP Has a Scheduled Supply Release

According to the official TRUMP website, CIC Digital LLC, an affiliate of The Trump Organization, and Fight Fight Fight LLC together own 80% of the token supply, which is scheduled to be released over three years. CIC Digital and Celebration Cards LLC, the owner of Fight Fight Fight, also receive revenue from trading activity.

The supply is unlocked daily. In a July market update, the project said roughly two-thirds of the total supply had already unlocked. It also said that less than 9.6% of the supply, taken from tokens that had been released, could be sold, distributed or used for ecosystem projects during the following months while Coin Club events continued.

The Coin Club encourages holders to accumulate the token. It ranks wallets by the amount of TRUMP held and the length of time it has been held. A leaderboard for a gala dinner in Washington is running this month, and the website warns that the winter leaderboard could contribute to price volatility. Holders receive event access for accumulating TRUMP during the same period in which the project has identified potential sales from its own inventory.

WLFI Gives Holders Governance Rights, While Revenue Claims Remain Separate

World Liberty Financial describes WLFI as a governance token. Holders can vote on upgrades, partnerships and the use of project funds. Those who lock their tokens for at least 180 days can receive variable rewards in the project’s USD1 stablecoin, provided they continue voting.

The project’s ownership and revenue structure is separate from the rights attached to publicly traded tokens. Reuters reported in March 2025 that DT Marks DEFI LLC, a Trump-affiliated company, owned approximately 60% of the holding company controlling World Liberty. Reuters also reported that the family had a claim on 75% of net revenue from token sales.

For a public token holder, the principal financial exposure is the market price of WLFI, with staking rewards potentially added. The revenue claims described by Reuters belong to the Trump-linked entity and are separate from the tokens traded on exchanges.

Investors and the Trump Family Face Different Exposure

The price comparison tracks the tokens rather than the Trump family’s overall returns. A Reuters investigation in June estimated that Trump and his sons had made at least $2.3 billion from four crypto ventures, including TRUMP and World Liberty. The investigation also estimated that more than one million investors had net losses of approximately $2.3 billion at the end of April.

Against that background, the latest divergence separates Bitcoin’s market-wide recovery from declines in TRUMP and WLFI, whose value is closely linked to a political brand that House Democrats have said they intend to investigate.

The next scheduled dates are November 12, 2026, for the snapshot of the TRUMP Gala Dinner leaderboard; November 22, 2026, for the TRUMP Gala Dinner in Washington, DC; January 3, 2027, when the new Congress is sworn in and Democrats take over committee chairs; and January 2028, when TRUMP’s 36-month release schedule is expected to end, counted from its January 2025 launch.
