Bitcoin Climbs Toward $84,000 as Michael Saylor Says Bottom Is In
Key Takeaways
- •Bitcoin rose 1.5% to near $83,900 after New York Fed President John Williams indicated no further interest-rate hikes would be needed in 2027, though one more increase this year may still be appropriate.
- •Analyst Ash Crypto reported that Bitcoin's $3,300 decline liquidated over $600 million in long positions before a rebound of more than $3,000 flushed $107 million in shorts and added $60 billion to its market value.
- •Michael Saylor said Bitcoin has entered a new bull market that could carry it back above $100,000, calling the bottom at slightly below $60,000 without offering a timeline.
- •Strategy bought 250 BTC for approximately $21.5 million between October 5 and 11, raising its total holdings to 848,250 BTC, the largest corporate bitcoin position.
- •MSCI is set to decide Friday on a proposal that could remove Strategy from its indexes, which JPMorgan estimates could put roughly $2.8 billion in flows at risk.

Bitcoin rose 1.5% to just under $83,900 during Wednesday’s Asian morning trading after New York Fed President John Williams said he saw no need for further interest-rate hikes in 2027. Williams said one additional hike this year may still be appropriate.
His comments weakened the U.S. dollar and lifted stocks across Asia. S&P 500 futures rose 0.2% after Williams’ remarks helped the S&P 500 pare its losses on Tuesday. The index is trading near last week’s record. Remarks from Fed officials are among the most closely watched macro signals for crypto traders, because the path of interest rates shapes dollar strength and the liquidity conditions under which digital assets trade.
Among major crypto assets, ZEC led gains, rising nearly 7% to about $1,270. SOL and DOGE each advanced 2.5%, while ether gained 2% to approximately $2,520, according to CoinDesk data. XRP, BNB and HYPE rose between 1% and 2%, while TRX gained less than 1%.
The move came amid broader recoveries in Asian markets. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix both rallied, ending a five-day losing streak that had wiped out leveraged bets on chip stocks at crypto exchanges earlier in the week. MSCI’s Asia Pacific equities index rose 0.7% after two consecutive losing sessions had pushed it to its lowest close since August.
Oil prices continued to climb, with Brent crude up 0.7% at about $106 a barrel. Renewed attacks in the Middle East raised doubts about a recovery in energy shipments from the Persian Gulf.
Volatility Hits Long and Short Positions
Analyst Ash Crypto described Bitcoin’s recent price action as “insane volatility” in a post on X. He said BTC fell $3,300 in 18 hours, liquidating more than $600 million in long positions, before recovering more than $3,000 over the following eight hours. Liquidations of that kind occur when exchanges force the closure of leveraged positions that can no longer meet margin requirements, and clusters of them can amplify price swings in both directions.
INSANE VOLATILITY $BTC dropped $3,300 in 18 hours, liquidating over $600 million in long positions. Then, BTC pumped over $3,000 in the last 8 hours, liquidating $107 million in short positions and adding $60 Billion in market value. According to Ash Crypto, the rebound liquidated $107 million in short positions and added $60 billion to Bitcoin’s market value. He wrote that the market is currently trapping both bulls and bears.
Saylor Says Bitcoin Could Return Above $100,000
Strategy executive chairman Michael Saylor said Bitcoin has entered a new bull market and could climb back above $100,000. He made the comments during a Bloomberg Television interview on October 13, without providing a timeline for such a move.
Bitcoin is raw financial energy. Strategy transforms it into Digital Credit. At noon today, I joined @TimSteno and @CarolMassar on Bloomberg @Crypto to discuss Bitcoin’s bull market setup, AI and scarcity, and the future of Digital Credit. 00:48 – Bitcoin bull market setup:… pic.twitter.com/yulHPiZ5lD — Michael Saylor (@saylor) October 13, 2026

“We hit the bottom around slightly below $60,000,” Saylor said.
Bitcoin was trading near $83,000, approximately 34% below its October 2025 record of $126,251. The cryptocurrency has remained around $80,000 since mid-August.
Strategy’s latest purchase added 250 BTC for approximately $21.5 million between October 5 and October 11. The company’s total Bitcoin holdings now stand at 848,250 BTC, making it the largest corporate holder of bitcoin — a status that has put its index classification under close scrutiny.
The next major developments for the market include Thursday’s U.S. inflation report and MSCI’s decision, expected Friday, on a proposal that could exclude Strategy from its indexes. Index-tracking funds generally mirror the composition of the benchmarks they follow, a dynamic behind JPMorgan’s estimate that an exclusion could place about $2.8 billion in flows at risk.
