Bitcoin Rebounds Above $77,000 as U.S. Midterm Results Remove Political Uncertainty

Bitcoin recovered to about $77,890 on Wednesday after briefly falling below $76,000, as reports indicated that Democrats were set to win control of both chambers of Congress. Midterm elections, held halfway through a president's term, decide all 435 House seats and roughly one-third of the Senate, with chamber control shaping which bills can advance. The cryptocurrency erased its early losses in a V-shaped move, according to CoinDesk, and was up about 0.5% on the day at the time of writing. Reuters data showed that Bitcoin had earlier reached a more than one-month low.

TDX Strategies founder Dick Lo said the initial decline followed the Democratic sweep, while the rebound came after the election result became clear. He said the definitive outcome removed political uncertainty, although he noted that a Democratic Congress is viewed as less favorable to pro-crypto legislation. Congress has in recent years weighed market-structure and stablecoin bills, making control of the chambers directly relevant to the industry's regulatory outlook.

The Kobeissi Letter wrote on X:

The election is over. The market called it hours ago. Objectively, it's an undisputed Democrat "sweep" all the way across the board. The Republicans have lost control of both the House and Senate. Meanwhile, Texas' US Senate and Governor races are set to flip blue for the… — The Kobeissi Letter (@KobeissiLetter) November 4, 2026

Lo added that divided government makes major policy changes less likely. According to him, President Donald Trump can still govern through executive orders and use his veto power against bills passed by Democrats.

Midterm results and market reaction

Nicolas Quatravaux, Paradigm’s head of EMEA, said the election result was not unexpected. He noted that Polymarket, a prediction market where users trade on the outcomes of real-world events, had assigned a probability of more than 75% to a Democratic victory for some time. In his assessment, the overnight market move was driven primarily by the removal of uncertainty rather than by the result itself.

Options activity increased on election day. Paradigm recorded approximately $660 million in Bitcoin options block trades, more than twice the previous day’s total. About $420 million in calls were purchased, compared with roughly $105 million in calls sold. A call option is a position that benefits if the price rises, while a put benefits if the price falls. A block trade is a large transaction negotiated privately.

Martin Lee, head of insights at DWF Labs, said confidence returned after the election result was confirmed. He said similar price action appeared in S&P and Nasdaq contracts on Hyperliquid, a decentralized derivatives platform. Nasdaq futures had fallen by more than 2% before reducing the decline to about 0.3%.

Retail sentiment data also showed a significant shift. Santiment, a crypto market intelligence firm, said on X that the ratio of bullish to bearish Bitcoin comments stood at approximately 1.8 on October 20. The ratio fell to 0.37 after news of the Binance hack emerged and, following a brief recovery, had returned to around 0.51.

Santiment said many retail traders consider Republicans to be more supportive of cryptocurrency and that the election result created additional selling pressure. The firm said a move back above $79,000 while retail sentiment remains bearish would be a strong sign.

Analyst Ted Pillows also addressed the midterm elections on X. He said Bitcoin had experienced corrections of between 20% and 50% during the previous three midterm election years. He added that Bitcoin had not reached a bottom before those elections, which he said was different this time. Pillows said a correction could occur from current levels but not reach a new cycle low.

In the last 3 midterm elections, $BTC experienced 20%-50% corrections. Also, Bitcoin didn't bottom before midterm elections, which isn't the case now. I think a correction could happen from here, but not to a new cycle low. pic.twitter.com/fEY63Yf2sg — Ted (@TedPillows) November 3, 2026

Analysts identify higher price levels

Markus Thielen, founder of 10x Research, said Bitcoin could move higher. He pointed to the cryptocurrency’s daily stochastic readings, a momentum indicator used to identify when an asset may have fallen too far or too quickly. Thielen said Bitcoin appeared oversold.

Thielen said Trump had indicated that he would respect the election results. He also said voters had voted against the war, raising hopes that peace negotiations would resume. Thielen identified $82,000 as the next target.

Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus, said the next several trading sessions would provide more information than the initial rebound. He said that if Bitcoin holds above $78,000 while exchange-traded fund redemptions continue, other buyers would be absorbing that supply. Subburaj added that ETF-related selling had slowed sharply.

U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, which hold Bitcoin directly and whose daily flows are widely tracked as a gauge of institutional demand, recorded $515 million in outflows during the first two trading days of November, according to SoSoValue. The same amount had left the products during the previous month. Negative readings on the Coinbase premium indicator, which measures the difference between Bitcoin's price on Coinbase and other major trading venues, also pointed to weaker demand.

Lacie Zhang, research lead at Bitget Wallet, said the broader trend remained in consolidation below key resistance. She placed that resistance between approximately $80,000 and $82,000 and said the speed of the rebound was constructive. However, she added that a more durable recovery would require Bitcoin to reclaim that range, while spot demand and institutional flows would also need to remain supportive.

Broader cryptocurrency markets moved higher alongside Bitcoin. Traders were still assessing the theft of more than $6 billion from Binance’s cryptocurrency holdings late the previous week. Binance has resumed withdrawals at a staggered pace and said it would cover all customer losses.

On Tuesday, Bitcoin was up 1.3% at $77,803.50 at 18:04 ET, according to Investing.com. At the latest check, it was trading near $77,890. Analysts identified the $79,000 to $82,000 range as the key area to watch.
