Bitcoin (BTC) was trading near $83,049 on the Oct. 11 daily Coinbase chart, holding above the lower end of a consolidation zone that has developed after a sustained rally from the August lows. The session saw BTC open near $82,911, rise to about $83,071, dip to $82,714 and settle slightly higher, leaving the price boxed in between roughly $80,315 and $87,397.
Price remains above the rising trendline that formed on the August breakout, although momentum has cooled since the climb from the mid-$60,000s into the mid-$80,000s. Extended consolidations like this one are typically judged by how price behaves at the levels that frame them, particularly on weekly closes.
Analyst Daan Crypto Trades said in a post on X on Oct. 10 that Bitcoin is "fighting for that $83K level," adding that weekly closes above it would be good for bulls in the short term. He also pointed to the daily 200-day moving average (200MA) and 200-day exponential moving average (200EMA), which are rising by about $100 a day. The long-term averages, among the most widely referenced gauges of trend in traditional and crypto markets alike, currently sit below the spot price.

According to the analyst, price often tests these averages after a major breakout from a bear trend, and they tend to offer initial support. He added that the daily 200EMA could catch up with price in about two months even if price stays flat, and noted that the same moving averages rejected price in May.
ETF Flows and Macro Backdrop
ETF flows remain a key short-term driver for Bitcoin. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs hold the asset directly on investors' behalf and trade through ordinary brokerage accounts, which has made their daily flow prints one of the most closely followed real-time reads on institutional demand since the products debuted in January 2024. Data from Farside Investors shows U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded a net inflow of $21.1 million on Oct. 9, marking the first positive session after two days of outflows. That followed outflows of $244.1 million on Oct. 8 and $484.9 million on Oct. 7.
BlackRock's IBIT led the way on Oct. 9 with $22.4 million in inflows, while Fidelity's FBTC saw a $3.6 million outflow. Cumulative net inflows across U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs stand at about $57.2 billion, a running measure of the capital these products have drawn since launch.
Flows have been uneven over the past week, a pattern consistent with the sideways price action. Earlier this month, ETF demand helped push Bitcoin toward the mid-$80,000s, and steady inflows could help a retest of the range top. The next several sessions of Farside data, together with the weekly close near $83K, will show whether that demand is rebuilding.
Reuters reported that markets are heading into the IMF-World Bank meetings in Bangkok, with higher interest rates, elevated debt concerns and Middle East tensions in focus. Rising Treasury yields and energy-price swings have also weighed on risk assets, a macro backdrop that investors weigh alongside crypto-specific flow data.
Citi raised its 12-month Bitcoin target to $,000 on Oct. 1, citing stronger crypto activity, a supportive macro backdrop and a slower return of ETF inflows. The bank expects about $5 billion of inflows over the next 12 months.
Chart Analysis
The relative strength index (RSI), a momentum gauge scaled from 0 to 100 where readings near 50 indicate balance between buying and selling pressure, reads 52.06, close to neutral. The MACD line sits near 864.74, below its signal line at 1,419.06, with the histogram at about -554.32 — a combination that points to softer near-term momentum even as price holds its overall structure.
The first level to watch is $80,315, the floor of the current range. A decisive loss of that level could pressure the rising trendline and open a move toward the high-$70,000s. On the upside, the key level is $87,397, where a breakout would bring higher resistance zones into view.
Analyst BATMAN said in a separate post on X on Oct. 10 that Bitcoin has more than $35 million in sell walls stacked between $85K and $89K. Sell walls are large clusters of limit sell orders gathered at a given price band, and they matter because that supply has to be absorbed before price can clear the zone.

He said bulls need to absorb that supply to unlock the next leg higher, adding that the real battle begins at $85K.
On Oct. 9, ETF flows turned positive for the first time in three sessions, and Bitcoin continues to trade near $83,000, holding within the consolidation range that has framed recent trading. The checkpoints ahead are the ones already in view: the weekly close around $83K, the next Farside flow prints, the slowly rising 200MA/200EMA below spot, and the $85K sell-wall cluster sitting between the range floor at $80,315 and the range top at $87,397.
