The funds hold their underlying assets directly rather than through derivatives; the first U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs launched in January 2024, with spot Ethereum ETFs following in July 2024, giving investors a regulated, exchange-traded route into the two largest cryptocurrencies by market value.
Bitcoin ETFs extend inflow streak to eight days
According to the data, spot Bitcoin ETFs posted a total net inflow of $232 million for the day, marking the eighth consecutive day of net inflows into the funds.
BlackRock's IBIT, the largest U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF by assets, led all Bitcoin ETFs with the highest daily capital inflow, taking in $201 million and lifting its historical total net inflows to $63.121 billion. Grayscale's Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF (BTC) ranked second with an inflow of $46.83 million, bringing its cumulative net inflow to $2.846 billion.
Grayscale's GBTC fund moved in the opposite direction, recording a net outflow of $50.39 million. GBTC's total net outflow since inception now stands at $27.578 billion. The fund originated as a private investment trust in 2013 and converted into a spot ETF following the SEC's January 2024 approvals, and it has been the outlier among the funds with persistent cumulative outflows.
The total net asset value of spot Bitcoin ETFs stands at $98.629 billion, according to the data. The funds account for 6.26% of Bitcoin's total market capitalization, while historical cumulative net inflows have reached $54.590 billion.
Ethereum ETFs mirror the trend
A similar picture emerged among Ethereum ETFs. On August 26, spot Ethereum ETFs saw a net inflow of $192 million, continuing an eight-day streak of uninterrupted inflows.
BlackRock's ETHA product attracted the highest daily inflow among Ethereum funds, receiving $116 million and bringing its historical total net inflow to $12.523 billion. Grayscale's Ethereum Mini Trust ETF also recorded an inflow of $34.67 million, raising its total net inflow to $1.897 billion.
Spot Ethereum ETFs hold a total net asset value of $15.127 billion, representing 5.07% of Ethereum's total market capitalization, while cumulative net inflows into the funds have reached $12.638 billion.
