BEML Ltd has secured an additional order worth ₹180.60 crore from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) for the supply of Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets.

The order reinforces BEML's role as a key supplier of rolling stock for Indian Railways' flagship Vande Bharat program. Vande Bharat trains are semi-high-speed, indigenously designed trainsets, and the sleeper variants are intended to extend the service to long-distance overnight routes across the Indian Railways network. The Vande Bharat program is a centerpiece of the government's Make in India push in rail manufacturing, with rolling stock designed and produced domestically by Indian Railways production units and their suppliers.

The Integral Coach Factory, based in Chennai, is a production unit of Indian Railways responsible for manufacturing coach and trainset rolling stock, and it has been the lead producer of the Vande Bharat series of trainsets.

BEML is a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, engaged in the manufacture of rail coaches, metro cars, mining and construction equipment, and defence products. Beyond its rail business, BEML's diversified order book spans defence and equipment segments — the company recently won orders for hydraulic excavators for the Mauritius market and fuselage aerostructures from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Follow-on orders such as this additional tranche from ICF reflect the incremental nature of Indian Railways procurement, where trainset programs are typically executed through a series of supply orders as production ramps up.
