B2U Storage Solutions has completed its second energy storage project in Texas built around repurposed electric vehicle batteries. The Bexar Martinez battery energy storage system (BESS), located near San Antonio, is now delivering 28 MWh of grid services to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), within the service territory of municipal utility CPS Energy.
With the new facility online, B2U now operates 50 MWh of repurposed energy storage across Texas. The company also develops and operates projects in California. Across both states, B2U is managing more than 5,000 repurposed EV batteries and operating roughly 100 MWh of energy storage in both solar-paired and stand-alone configurations.

The project supports grid reliability in one of the fastest-growing regions of the ERCOT market, helping meet rising electricity demand with a lower-cost storage solution. B2U expects to deploy an additional 50+ MWh in ERCOT over the next six months.
Demonstrating bankability, the Bexar Martinez project and B2U's other sites qualify for the domestic content bonus under the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), have received third-party financing, and have been acquired by B2U Infrastructure Partners.
Second-life storage involves redeploying battery packs retired from electric vehicles—typically because their capacity has declined below the levels required for vehicle use—in stationary applications where the remaining capacity can still deliver grid value. ERCOT, which operates the power grid serving most of Texas, has become a leading market for utility-scale battery storage as electricity demand across the state continues to grow. CPS Energy is the municipally owned utility serving the San Antonio area.
