Construction has officially begun on Avenir LNG’s second 20,000 m3 LNG bunkering vessel after its keel laying ceremony in China.
The ceremony took place on July 24 at Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering, where the vessel is being built, the company said in a LinkedIn post published yesterday.
Avenir LNG said the keel laying marks the official start of the vessel’s assembly and reflects cooperation between the company, its project partners and the shipyard.
"We look forward to seeing the vessel take shape over the coming months," the company said in the post.
The milestone comes as LNG bunkering capacity remains a key part of the infrastructure needed to supply vessels using LNG as marine fuel, and it follows Ship & Bunker’s report that Avenir LNG launched another 20,000 m3 LNG bunkering vessel, Avenir Ambition, last week.
According to the company’s website, Avenir LNG has five LNG bunkering vessels, with some operated by the company and others chartered to customers. Two more vessels, including the latest newbuild, are scheduled for delivery this year and next year.
