“Avengers Endgame: Encore” has become the highest-grossing film re-release of all time in West Africa, according to Nigerian Box Office. The rerun earned ₦93.4 million at Nigerian cinemas, lifting the film’s combined gross past ₦600 million — a result that shows legacy titles can still deliver top-tier cinema revenue in the region years after their original release.
The re-release ended its run on Thursday, six weeks after returning to cinemas, closing with a final tally of ₦93,446,448, the Nigerian Box Office announced on X. The Film Intelligence digest by Fusion Intelligence puts the combined gross of the original release and the encore at about ₦621.7 million. The digest observed that six weeks of the seven-year-old Avengers film generated almost as much revenue as many new releases collect across their entire runs.
Nigerian box office surpasses 2025 total with two months to spare
The digest reported that the Nigerian box office has grossed about ₦15.49 billion in 2026, overtaking the roughly ₦15.4 billion recorded across all of 2025, a milestone reached with almost two months of the year still to come. Clearing the previous full-year figure before December confirms the market is running ahead of last year’s pace.
In the latest week, cinemas took in about ₦206.4 million from roughly 32,000 admissions, a decline of about 15 per cent. Five new titles opened during the period, but returning films occupied the top four places on the chart — a lineup that captures how much of the market’s current momentum rests on catalog and holdover titles rather than the new slate.
Agbara Nla enters Nollywood’s all-time top 10
“Agbara Nla: The Return” topped the chart for a fifth consecutive week, earning ₦39.5 million from 6,773 admissions. With a cumulative total of ₦462.2 million from 77,440 admissions, the film has overtaken “The Wedding Party” (₦452.3 million) to become the 10th highest-grossing Nollywood film ever — and with its run still active, it has further weeks to add to that total. Week-on-week revenue fell by just 16 per cent.
The film captured 19.1 per cent of the week’s box office revenue on 21.1 per cent of admissions, meaning it drew a larger share of audiences than of revenue.
“Tele X Zikora” held second place with ₦34.4 million, down 17 per cent, taking its total to ₦75.5 million. For the second week running, it outgrossed “Agbara Nla” on Friday, Monday and Tuesday, aided by the widest release on the chart at 89 locations — a reminder of how screen count can shape a title’s weekly performance pattern.
Strongest new openings
Among the new arrivals, “Phoenix Fury” posted the best debut with ₦10.6 million across 68 locations. “Maybe… Maybe Not” earned ₦10.4 million from only 48 locations, about ₦193,000 per location and the highest per-site average of any new title — a contrast that shows how footprint size and per-location yield can pull in different directions for new releases.
With almost two months of the year remaining, every naira earned from this point forward extends what is already a record year for the Nigerian box office. Whether the closing stretch is defined by holdovers and catalog titles or by new releases building longer runs is the question that will determine the final shape of the year’s tally.
