ASX CFO Andrew Tobin to Retire After Successor Is Appointed

The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) said Chief Financial Officer Andrew Tobin intends to retire, ending a tenure that began in 2022 and covered a period of significant change for the exchange operator.

Tobin has overseen ASX's finance, treasury, strategy and corporate affairs functions during his time with the organisation. ASX credited him with helping strengthen financial discipline across the company, supporting major strategic and transformation initiatives, and providing steady leadership through a challenging operating environment. His tenure spanned a period in which ASX grappled with the complexities of its CHESS clearing and settlement system replacement, a major technology overhaul that the exchange ultimately paused and reset after finding the original blockchain-based approach would not meet industry needs.

ASX Interim CEO Darren Yip praised Tobin's contribution, saying he had played an important role over the past four years as the exchange navigated demanding market conditions. Yip also thanked Tobin for agreeing to remain in the CFO position on a temporary basis while ASX continues the search for a successor.

Tobin's departure will not take effect immediately. He has agreed to stay in the role until a new CFO is appointed, a step intended to support an orderly handover and avoid disruption to ASX's financial operations during the transition.

The announcement comes alongside broader leadership changes at ASX. Anthony Attia is scheduled to become Chief Executive Officer on 1 September 2026, as previously disclosed by the exchange. The leadership renewal comes as ASX works to rebuild market confidence following the technology delays and continues investing in infrastructure that underpins trillions of dollars in annual trading across equities, derivatives and fixed income markets.

According to ASX, Attia will lead the selection process for the next CFO with support from the Board. The exchange said this approach is intended to ensure the appointment aligns with the incoming CEO's vision and ASX's long-term strategic direction.

ASX operates Australia's main securities exchange and provides market infrastructure services including listing, trading, clearing and settlement functions. The CFO transition adds to the company's senior leadership changes as it prepares for Attia's arrival as chief executive.
