Arevon Energy has commenced operations at the Nighthawk Energy Storage Project, a 300-MW/1,200-MWh battery storage facility located in Poway, California. The project ranks as the largest standalone battery storage installation in Arevon's portfolio and adds to California's rapidly growing fleet of grid-scale batteries, which the state has been expanding to support its transition toward a 100% clean electricity target by 2045.

The facility utilizes lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, a chemistry that has become dominant in utility-scale storage due to its strong safety profile and declining costs. With a four-hour duration, Nighthawk is designed to discharge during periods of peak demand, helping address the growing gap between afternoon solar generation and evening consumption patterns that California grid operators have managed as renewable penetration increases. The project supports grid reliability across the San Diego region under a long-term agreement with Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). Over its operational lifetime, Nighthawk is projected to generate more than $30 million in property tax revenue. At peak construction, the project employed over 130 workers.

California's battery storage buildout has accelerated in recent years as the state retires natural gas plants and works to maintain grid stability during extreme heat events. Standardized procurement mechanisms, including resource adequacy contracts like the one underpinning Nighthawk, have provided developers with the revenue certainty needed to finance large-scale projects. Beyond the project's economic contributions, Arevon has established partnerships with organizations across Poway and the greater San Diego community, providing support for youth programs, first responders, special needs adult services, climate education, and local nonprofit organizations. Key partners include the North County Special Needs Community Foundation, Kiwanis Club of Poway and The Ranches, Rancho Family YMCA, the Deputy Sheriffs' Association of San Diego County, and other community organizations.
