Anthropic has entered into a six-year, $10 billion computing agreement with Nvidia-backed Volta Infra Holdings, according to media reports. The contract secures substantial new data center capacity for the Claude AI developer in Norway, supporting its response to growing demand for coding, research, and business tools. Under the agreement, Volta will provide 133 megawatts of Nvidia-powered AI capacity, with Bitdeer Technologies Group supporting the deal through its established data center operations.

Long-Term Capacity in Norway

Volta announced the contract on Tuesday but did not identify its artificial intelligence customer. Media reports subsequently identified Anthropic as the company behind the six-year agreement. Volta will deliver the computing capacity in partnership with Bitdeer Technologies Group at a large Norwegian site equipped to handle large computing workloads. Norway has attracted data center investment partly because of its cold climate and abundant hydropower, which help reduce cooling costs and provide renewable electricity for energy-intensive AI computing.

Volta plans to outfit the facility with Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin chips, offering newer processors designed for demanding model training and commercial services at scale. Volta CEO Ricard Boada declined to name the customer publicly, and representatives for Anthropic and Bitdeer also declined to comment on the reports. However, the disclosed terms are consistent with Anthropic's broader infrastructure expansion across multiple providers. The choice of Vera Rubin chips positions the facility around Nvidia's planned successor to its current Blackwell architecture, reflecting how AI labs are coordinating capacity around future chip roadmaps rather than only current-generation hardware.

Volta Builds a Major Nvidia-Backed Cloud Project

Former Brookfield Asset Management executives launched Volta in January. The startup leases computing capacity and helps customers finance expensive chip purchases. A recent $300 million funding round valued the young company at $2.4 billion.

The agreement gives Volta a major long-term customer only months after its launch and connects the startup with Bitdeer's established data center operations. Bitdeer has begun converting selected cryptocurrency mining sites in Texas, Tennessee, and Washington for artificial intelligence computing. Bitcoin miners control large power supplies and facilities capable of hosting dense computing equipment, and falling mining returns have encouraged several operators to seek alternative revenue sources. Other mining companies, including Core Scientific and Hut 8, have similarly pursued AI hosting contracts, reflecting a broader industry shift as miners repurpose existing power infrastructure. As a result, AI companies can access ready infrastructure without building every large facility from scratch.

Claude Maker Expands Computing Deals Across Providers

Anthropic has pursued multiple agreements to expand its available computing resources. The company has reached arrangements with SpaceX, Advanced Micro Devices, and Akamai Technologies, and has also discussed leasing additional capacity from data centers operated by Meta Platforms. The breadth of partners reflects a competitive landscape in which major AI labs are racing to lock in compute supply, with OpenAI, Google, and others also securing large-scale infrastructure commitments.

These agreements support Claude's growth across consumer and business applications, with coding services remaining a major source of demand for the company's expanding product line. Anthropic reportedly raised $65 billion earlier this year for development and infrastructure spending, and may consider a public listing as soon as this year. The Volta deal illustrates how Anthropic is securing capacity in advance of rising demand tightening available supply.
