Alpha Compute Corp (Nasdaq: ALP) has agreed to a $55 million acquisition of land and natural gas rights in Pennsylvania, where the company intends to construct a 200-megawatt data center campus dedicated to AI infrastructure.

The transaction represents a significant expansion step for the GPU-as-a-Service provider, which specializes in confidential computing. Headquartered in the British Virgin Islands, Alpha Compute maintains offices in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Amsterdam, and Toronto.

Strategic Vertical Integration

Although the company has not disclosed a specific site within Pennsylvania, a construction timeline, or detailed power sourcing arrangements, the simultaneous acquisition of land and gas rights suggests a vertically integrated strategy. By controlling both the facility and a portion of its energy supply, Alpha Compute aims to secure long-term operational independence for the planned campus. The approach reflects a broader industry challenge: as AI workloads scale, data center developers across the United States face mounting pressure from grid interconnection delays and constrained power availability, pushing some operators to secure dedicated energy sources behind the meter.

Pennsylvania's role in this strategy is notable because the state sits atop the Marcellus Shale, one of the most productive natural gas formations in North America, providing a established extraction infrastructure that could support on-site or nearby power generation.

Recent Compute Off-Take Agreement

The Pennsylvania deal follows a $32.2 million compute off-take agreement that Alpha Compute recently signed with a frontier AI lab. Under the two-year contract, the company will deploy 504 NVIDIA B200 GPUs, GPUs engineered by NVIDIA for large-scale AI training and inference workloads. The agreement is projected to generate $16.1 million in annual recurring revenue.

GPU-as-a-Service Model

Alpha Compute's business model centers on delivering GPU compute capacity as a managed service rather than leasing rack space or offering colocation. Customers gain access to high-performance NVIDIA hardware without bearing the costs of ownership, maintenance, or physical hosting. The model has gained traction as AI labs and enterprises seek flexible access to scarce GPU resources without committing to multi-year hardware procurement cycles.

Pennsylvania's Data Center Boom

Pennsylvania has emerged as a major hub for AI and hyperscale data center development in the United States. CoreWeave and Amazon are among the firms that have committed substantial capital to build facilities in the state. Total investment pledges across Pennsylvania's data center sector are projected to reach tens of billions of dollars. The planned 200-megawatt campus would rank among the larger AI-focused facilities under development, placing Alpha Compute in direct competition with well-capitalized incumbents scaling rapidly in the same region.
