AIA Life Korea CEO Nathan Chuang Steps Down

Nathan Chuang has stepped down as chief executive officer of AIA Life Korea, the South Korean unit of the Hong Kong-based life insurance company AIA, the company announced Tuesday.

Chuang decided to leave the company "to pursue other opportunities," AIA Life Korea said, without elaborating further on the reasons behind his departure.

The insurer added that the process to appoint Chuang's successor is already underway. In the meantime, Helena Chon, AIA Life Korea's chief financial officer, will assume the CEO role on an interim basis, keeping the unit under familiar financial leadership until a permanent appointment is made.

Chuang has led the South Korean operation since 2022. His three-year term as CEO was renewed in July 2025, so the departure comes partway through that renewed term.

AIA Life Korea is the local arm of AIA Group, one of the largest life insurance groups in the Asia-Pacific region. The group was founded in 1919 in Shanghai and is headquartered in Hong Kong, where it has been listed on the stock exchange since its 2010 initial public offering. AIA has maintained a presence in the South Korean market since 1957, meaning its Korean operation predates the group's Hong Kong listing by more than half a century. With the succession process already underway, the next development to watch from the unit is the naming of its permanent chief executive.
