Agentic payments are now live on Arc, marking a new step toward automated crypto payments between AI agents, applications, and services. The rollout was announced on September 19, 2026, and is powered by Circle's Facilitator Service, which provides builders using the x402 protocol with a hosted path to accept Circle-issued USDC, the dollar-pegged stablecoin. Onchain settlement is supported on three networks: Arc, Base, and Polygon. According to the announcement, Circle agents and developers can now receive USDC payments via the x402 protocol, with no relayer keys and no separate gas wallets required.

The update removes several technical hurdles that have traditionally complicated blockchain payments, making it easier for developers to monetize APIs, data services, and AI-powered applications.

Circle's Facilitator Service Powers the Integration

Developers can now integrate with the Arc, Base, and Polygon PoS networks to accept Circle-issued USDC. The system is built around Circle's hosted Facilitator Service, which verifies buyer-signed payment authorizations and submits the corresponding USDC transfers onchain. As a result, developers do not need to coordinate relayers, set up their own settlement infrastructure, or maintain separate wallets to cover gas fees. Because verification and settlement are hosted, payment infrastructure is handled for the developer rather than self-managed.

Before payment states are issued, Circle performs transaction broadcasting, executes settlements, and carries out screening. The service is built on the x402 protocol and the EIP-3009 authorization standard. x402 is designed around HTTP's "402 Payment Required" status code, giving web services a native way to charge per request, while EIP-3009 lets USDC transfers be authorized with signed messages instead of manual wallet confirmations. Together, these standards mean users are not required to follow the standard wallet-based flow for every interaction.

Agent-to-Agent Payments Move Closer to Reality

The launch comes amid rising interest in machine-powered transactions, in which AI agents can discover services, make payments, and then proceed with further job execution with limited human involvement. Arc described the new system as a “cleaner” way for agents to find, pay, and stay on the go, and the stated objective is to eliminate payment friction that can disrupt automated flows. In such workflows, even a small hurdle — a depleted gas wallet or a manual confirmation prompt — can stall an otherwise autonomous process, which is why hosted verification and settlement matter for builders.

Developers can configure their own price per request and settle the resulting transactions in USDC. The model is especially relevant for AI use cases that involve data consumption, API usage, or dynamically acquired digital content.

What Builders Can Create

According to the announcement, the infrastructure supports a range of new use cases across the crypto and AI industries. Developers can offer metered API services and agents, settle marketplaces in USDC, or receive payments from AI agents inside automated workflows without needing to worry about usage fees.

The launch also opens a pathway for existing payment projects that have already adopted the x402 protocol to move their payments into Circle's hosted infrastructure, streamlining and optimizing operations while still settling onchain. The technology could extend beyond payments into trading, with USDC positioned as a payment layer for autonomous software.

Multi-Chain USDC Settlement Without Extra Infrastructure

One of the leading capabilities of the Facilitator Service is its ability to support multiple blockchains through a single integration. Developers can accept x402-based payments with a single setup instead of building an individual payment system for each network, which decreases operational complexity and increases network reach.

The rollout also includes a key demo: builders can experiment with the Circle service without creating a Circle account or handling API keys, lowering the barrier for teams evaluating agentic payment setups before committing to an integration.
