Yellow Card raises $40 million to link banks to stablecoin processing

The funds bring Yellow Card’s total financing to more than $120 million since being founded 10 years ago.

Yellow Card raised $40 million in strategic equity funding, lifting its total equity financing above $120 million at a valuation higher than its 2022 $200 million mark but still below $1 billion.

The company is working with commercial banks worldwide to use stablecoins and onchain payments to move dollars across borders and compete with legacy systems such as Swift.

Yellow Card plans to use the new capital to expand its Global USD Accounts product and add stablecoin and local payment options in Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

Yellow Card said it raised $40 million in strategic equity funding to expand its stablecoin payment infrastructure offering, betting that banks will increasingly use blockchain technology to move dollars across borders.

The round included SC Ventures, Standard Chartered’s venture arm, Sony Innovation Fund, Polychain Capital and Blockchain Capital. It brings Yellow Card’s total equity financing to more than $120 million at a valuation significantly higher than the $200 million it rated in 2022, but not yet $1 billion, one person close to the matter told CoinDesk.

Neither Yellow Card CEO Chris Maurice nor the U.S.-based company's PR team confirmed the valuation.

Maurice, who co-founded the firm, said the company is working with commercial banks globally to use stablecoins to bring more dollars into markets and replace legacy payment systems.

Yellow Card主要聚焦新兴市场，将利用这笔新资金扩大面向企业的美元账户产品Global USD Accounts，并在拉丁美洲和亚太地区增加稳定币及本地支付机制。

Yellow Card表示，这些账户允许企业持有美元、持有并兑换稳定币、管理资金运营，并通过50多个国家的本地支付网络收付当地货币。

Maurice表示，公司历史上的业务流量大致在企业客户和使用其资金管理及支付基础设施的大型金融机构之间各占一半。他说，随着大型机构采用该公司的系统，银行端业务量正在更快增长。

Maurice称，Yellow Card最初在非洲开展业务，并在那里围绕碎片化、按国家划分的监管辖区建立了运营体系。该公司表示，自2016年成立以来，已促成超过100亿美元的交易，并在22个司法辖区持有牌照、授权或登记。
