European marine fuel supplier Verde Marine Energy (VME) has expanded into marine lubricants, adding the service to its existing bunker business.

The new offering is available from September 1, the company said in an announcement on Monday.

Patrick Koers has joined VME as lubricant trader and will be responsible for developing and managing the lubricant business.

Koers brings 40 years of experience in shipping and lubricant trading, including previous experience in lubricant procurement.

“We already work closely with customers on their marine energy requirements, and this allows us to support them in another important part of their vessel operations,” Joe Tierney, Head of Trading at Verde Marine Energy, said.

“By combining the existing lubricant expertise with Verde’s bunker activities and customer network, we see a good opportunity to further strengthen the service we can offer to both existing and new customers,” Koers said.

VME also sources AdBlue and urea for Selective Catalytic Reduction systems used to reduce NOx emissions from marine engines.

The expansion is aimed at strengthening VME’s support for shipowners and operators across their marine fuel and lubricant needs, bringing more of the vessel energy and maintenance supply chain into one relationship. For customers, that can mean a broader service package from a supplier already active in marine fuel procurement, while VME adds a segment that is closely tied to day-to-day engine operations and emissions-control equipment.
