Energy firm Stabilis Solutions has supplied more than 150,000 m³ of liquefied natural gas (LNG) through 97 bunkering operations at the Port of Galveston, United States.

This milestone makes Stabilis the only physical LNG supplier on the US Gulf Coast to have reached 97 LNG bunkering operations, the company said in a LinkedIn post on August 13, 2026.

LNG has gained traction as a marine fuel as the shipping industry seeks alternatives to conventional heavy fuel oil to reduce sulfur oxide, nitrogen oxide, and particulate emissions. The International Maritime Organization's 0.50% global sulfur cap, in effect since 2020, has been a key driver behind shipowners and operators adopting LNG and other lower-emission bunker fuels.

"As the only physical supplier of LNG on the Gulf Coast to reach this milestone, we've earned a reputation as a trusted, proven operator — both with local Galveston stakeholders and with the world's largest cruise operator," the firm said in the post.

"That trust is reflected in the 10-year LNG offtake agreement we executed in December 2025."

Stabilis is also advancing its proposed Galveston LNG Facility, which is intended to build on its existing bunkering operations at the port. The facility is expected to begin production in Q3 2028 and will include a new bunker barge to support LNG deliveries to LNG-fuelled ships calling at the Galveston and Houston ports.

The planned facility and bunker barge would expand LNG delivery capacity at a time when major cruise lines and container shipping operators continue to add dual-fuel and LNG-powered vessels to their fleets, increasing demand for bunkering infrastructure along the US Gulf Coast.

"The advancement of our proposed Stabilis Galveston LNG Facility is a natural progression of our established LNG bunkering footprint in Galveston," the company said.

The Port of Galveston is located at the entrance to Galveston Bay and the Houston Ship Channel.
