Peninsula Seeks Junior Cargo Trader in Dubai

Global marine fuel supplier and trading firm Peninsula is seeking to hire a junior cargo trader in Dubai.

The role would suit a candidate with previous experience in physical trading, ideally with exposure to residual and distillate fuels, the company said in a LinkedIn job advertisement on Monday.

According to the advertisement, the position involves procuring marine fuels, blending components and other associated products. The listed responsibilities include maintaining, establishing and building relationships with new and existing suppliers; procuring marine fuels and their blending components to maintain a competitive supply into the regional physical ports; and communicating openly with other cargo traders internally to maximize the flow of market and arbitrage opportunities globally.

The job also calls for the ability to understand, analyse and interpret market conditions, fundamentals, geopolitics, market structure plays and other sources of information in order to have a view that better positions Peninsula’s supply.

Other responsibilities include coordinating supply and blending with local operations teams; coordinating with chartering to maximize value of Peninsula’s shipping assets; and working with the Regional Book Manager and Hedging Desk to mitigate pricing risk and maximize value of supply within the risk management framework.

The junior cargo trader would also be expected to coordinate with the line manager and Regional Head to define and implement medium- and long-term procurement strategies, participate in both internal and external marketing activities when required, and use MINT and local market intelligence to understand competitors and suppliers' flows of supply.

The advertisement says the role also requires proactive risk control, including ensuring that all counterparties are vetted and approved, that the cost of claims is minimized, and that counterparty financial strength is regularly and carefully considered in conjunction with the Supplier Credit Team.
