Mexican LNG infrastructure company Enestas has announced a strategic partnership with Power LNG to develop LNG infrastructure, including marine bunkering, at the Port of Galveston, Texas.

Under the agreement, Enestas will provide capital, LNG transportation and storage equipment, and downstream operating expertise to support Power LNG's Harborside Terminal and Project Seawolf on Pelican Island, the two companies said in a press release.

The partnership will enable LNG distribution by truck to commence while Project Seawolf remains under development. The LNG supplied through the partnership will be used to support bunkering operations for LNG-fuelled vessels calling at Galveston, a segment that has grown as shipowners adopt LNG propulsion to comply with International Maritime Organization limits on sulphur content in marine fuels and to reduce fleet-level emissions of nitrogen oxides and particulate matter.

Project Seawolf is planned as a full-scale LNG liquefaction and marine bunkering facility. In addition to ship bunkering, the project is designed to support truck loading, virtual pipeline distribution, and international exports.

"Together, we can immediately begin serving customers while laying the foundation for one of the most strategic LNG bunkering facilities in North America," Austin Terry, Founder and CEO of Power LNG, said.

"We see tremendous opportunities in marine bunkering, virtual pipeline logistics, industrial LNG supply, and exports to Latin America and the Caribbean, and we are excited to build that future together," Caio Zapata, CEO of Enestas, said.

Enestas, headquartered in Mexico, specializes in LNG logistics and virtual pipeline solutions, supplying natural gas to industrial customers and remote locations not connected to pipeline networks.

The Port of Galveston, located on the U.S. Gulf Coast, serves as a significant hub for cargo and energy shipping. The Gulf Coast is also home to the majority of U.S. LNG export capacity, and bunkering infrastructure at Galveston could position the port as a refueling destination for vessels operating along Gulf Coast and transatlantic trade routes.

Energy firm Stabilis Solutions is also developing an LNG facility in Galveston, indicating growing interest in the region's LNG bunkering sector.
