Baltic Exchange Appoints Sigrid Teig as Deputy CEO

Baltic Exchange has announced the appointment of Sigrid Teig as Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Teig will join the organization later this year, following an extensive recruitment process that began in October 2025.

The hire arrives during a period of transformation and innovation at Baltic Exchange, as the institution seeks to strengthen its leadership team and develop new products and services for its members and the broader maritime industry. The Baltic's freight rate benchmarks — including the widely tracked Baltic Dry Index — are embedded in physical contracts, freight derivatives, and shipping models across the global trade system, making the leadership transition relevant well beyond the exchange's direct membership.

Professional Background

Teig brings more than 15 years of leadership experience spanning shipping, maritime services, and digital transformation, with deep knowledge of the Singapore and Asia-Pacific markets. Her career has been defined by commercial success and stakeholder engagement across the global shipping sector.

Most recently, Teig served as Managing Director Singapore and Executive Vice-President of Customer Success for DA-Desk and PortLog at Marcura, one of the world's leading maritime technology and services companies. In that role, she supported more than 300 clients in the dry bulk and tanker markets. Prior to Marcura, she held key leadership positions at Western Bulk, including Chief Process Officer and General Manager of its Singapore office, where she developed expertise in freight risk, credit risk management, and maritime market dynamics.

Teig holds an MSc in Economics and Business Administration from the Norwegian School of Economics. She previously served on the board of the Norwegian Business Association (Singapore) and has held several non-executive directorships across the maritime industry.

Role and Responsibilities

As Deputy CEO, Teig will work closely with CEO Mark Jackson, the wider team, members, and panelists to enhance member services, expand product offerings, and reinforce the Baltic's position as the world's leading provider of maritime market information.

Commenting on her appointment, Teig said, "It is an honour to join Baltic Exchange at such an exciting yet critical time for the global maritime sector. More than ever, our industry needs effective, reliable benchmarking data to navigate volatility, boost transparency and support the decision-making of shipping's stakeholders. Baltic Exchange has held an important role at the heart of the maritime industry for more than 280 years and it is a privilege to now be able to contribute to its legacy and drive it forward for the benefit of its members and the entire maritime industry."

Mark Jackson, CEO of Baltic Exchange, said, "We are thrilled to welcome Sigrid to Baltic Exchange. Her experience in commercial leadership, stakeholder management and shipping markets will complement the Baltic's leading role in benchmark administration, enhancing our position and value to the global maritime community. The entire Baltic team is looking forward to working closely with Sigrid when she joins later this year to strengthen our offerings and drive opportunities for our members."

Michael Syn, President of SGX Group, said, "Few institutions embody the combination of global influence, enduring relevance and trusted stewardship that has defined the Baltic Exchange for centuries. The Baltic remains a valued part of SGX Group and central to our long-term ambitions. Under Mark's leadership, the business has built a strong platform for growth, and we are delighted to welcome Sigrid to the team. Her track record at the forefront of data-led transformation and deep roots in Asia's shipping community will further strengthen the Baltic's position at the heart and future of global maritime markets." SGX Group completed its acquisition of Baltic Exchange in 2016, integrating the London-founded institution's benchmarking franchise into the Singapore exchange's broader commodities and data strategy.

Planned Leadership Transition

Teig's appointment is part of a planned and orderly leadership transition announced in October 2025. Mark Jackson will remain as CEO of Baltic Exchange with a broader remit, focusing on the company's strategic initiatives and product evolution amid the growing significance of freight and transportation data expertise worldwide.
