US-based low-carbon fuels and solutions provider Anew Climate has joined the LNG bunker industry coalition SEA-LNG, aiming to accelerate the broader adoption of bio-LNG as a marine fuel.

Anew currently supplies bio-LNG across major shipping hubs in North America, Europe, and Asia, according to a press release issued by SEA-LNG on Tuesday.

Bio-LNG, produced from organic waste and agricultural feedstocks, serves as a cleaner alternative to conventional liquefied natural gas and can be deployed as a drop-in fuel aboard LNG-powered vessels to help cut emissions. The fuel is already available for bunkering at a growing number of ports, with particularly strong uptake across European locations. Its adoption is gaining urgency as the shipping industry faces tightening environmental regulations, including the International Maritime Organization's net-zero greenhouse gas emissions target by or around 2050 and the EU's FuelEU Maritime regulation, which takes effect in 2025 and places limits on the carbon intensity of energy used onboard ships.

"Bio-LNG is one of the most practical and scalable tools available today to help the maritime sector reduce emissions and meet evolving regulatory requirements," said Andy Brosnan, President of Low Carbon Fuels at Anew Climate.

The addition of Anew to the coalition also strengthens SEA-LNG's presence in North America. "Anew's membership expands our North American footprint and supports the methane decarbonisation pathway's global expansion," said Steve Esau, Chief Operating Officer of SEA-LNG.
