Coal India shares fell 2% after the state-run miner reported a marginal 1% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit for Q1 FY27 to Rs 8,852 crore. On a sequential basis, profit declined more than 18%.
The update came as investors weighed a softer quarterly print against the company’s role as a key supplier to India’s power sector, where demand trends can influence coal offtake and earnings visibility. Even so, Jefferies maintained a Buy rating on the stock with a target price of Rs 500, citing an expected recovery in power demand, improving earnings growth and attractive valuations.
