Hindustan Unilever (HUL) shares rebounded 2.2% after brokerages maintained constructive views despite the FMCG major reporting a 3% year-on-year decline in Q1 FY27 net profit, which missed estimates.
Revenue rose 10% to Rs 17,341 crore, supported by the company’s strongest underlying sales growth in 13 quarters. HUL said the profit decline was due to a one-off tax credit in the year-ago period, a reminder that comparisons with the same quarter last year can be distorted by exceptional items even when operating performance improves.
The move in the stock also reflects how investors in consumer staples tend to watch revenue momentum, margins and demand trends closely after earnings, especially in a sector where volume growth has been uneven across quarters. In that context, the stronger sales print mattered more to the market than the headline profit miss.
