El funcionario de la Fed reduce las expectativas de un aumento de tasas
New York Fed President John Williams told CNBC on Wednesday that there were “no clear signs right now” that a September rate hike would be needed to bring inflation down.
Williams also said rising bond yields may be reflecting a strong economy rather than higher inflation expectations. His comments gave markets some room to recover, even as borrowing costs remained elevated and continued to shape sentiment across equities.
The 10-year Treasury yield held at 4.79% on Wednesday, its highest level since 2023. The 30-year yield stood at 5.26%.
Andy Goldberg, chief investment strategist at Nomura Asset Management International, said the day’s gains were driven more by a lack of negative news than by a major catalyst.
“When you do have a lack of clear catalyst and the market’s been down for a few days, investors don’t feel as bad buying the dips,” Goldberg said.
He added that elevated yields have capped stock valuations after a strong earnings season, which has made some shares look more attractive on pullbacks.
Los precios del petróleo y el conflicto con Irán siguen en el foco
Oil prices remained a key market concern this week. Brent crude futures traded near $95 a barrel, while WTI crude held near $90 a barrel.
The Iran conflict continued to weigh on sentiment. President Trump on Tuesday threatened to hit Iran “much harder” if it retaliates against US airstrikes. Iran said it is targeting US military bases in Jordan and Bahrain.
Stocks had initially fallen earlier in the session before recovering as oil prices eased slightly, underscoring how energy prices and geopolitics were still driving intraday swings.
Los datos de empleo de ADP quedan por debajo de las previsiones
On the labor front, ADP data showed that the US private sector added 38,000 jobs in August, below economist estimates of 47,000. The report raised the possibility of a softer reading in Friday’s official monthly jobs report, which traders will watch for additional clues on the labor market and the Federal Reserve’s next steps.
Broadcom and Snowflake were both scheduled to report earnings after Wednesday’s closing bell, adding another point of focus for investors.
The day’s gains were modest, but they offered some relief after several sessions of losses on Wall Street.
