El Departamento de Justicia de Estados Unidos (DOJ) anunció esta semana la incautación de más de $550,000 en donaciones de criptomonedas y la interrupción de sitios web de reclutamiento vinculados con la organización terrorista Hamas.

Mediante incautaciones autorizadas por la corte, el FBI confiscó aproximadamente $560,000 en criptomonedas y tomó control de dominios y servidores que, según se alegó, Hamas utilizaba para recaudar dinero y reclutar simpatizantes, de acuerdo con la fiscal federal para el Distrito de Columbia, Jeanine Pirro.

"A message to Hamas: We will stop your fundraising for terror," dijo Pirro en un comunicado. "Your networks are not secure, your crypto is vulnerable, and we will not stop until your ability to wage war is defeated."

En un video publicado en X, Pirro describió la operación como un "massive blow against foreign terrorism" que interrumpiría los esfuerzos de reclutamiento en línea de Hamas.

"By seizing their servers and their domains, we were able to directly intercept money that was going to be used by the military wing of Hamas, the Al Qassam Brigade," dijo.

"And to add a little more interest to this, we also now have the names and identities of thousands of individuals who tried to give money to Hamas that we were able to intercept," continuó.

Según documentos judiciales federales, los investigadores se enteraron de un chat grupal que afirmaba tener vínculos con Hamas en una plataforma de comunicaciones cifrada, el cual dirigía a simpatizantes de la organización terrorista hacia un sitio web de recaudación de fondos y un conjunto rotativo de direcciones para donaciones en criptomonedas.

Los fiscales dijeron que los investigadores usaron información de múltiples fuentes humanas en tres ocasiones separadas — March 25, June 25 y Oct. 10, 2025 — para identificar, rastrear e incautar aproximadamente $560,000 en criptomonedas destinadas a apoyar a las Brigadas Al Qassam de Hamas.

The Justice Department said the FBI also used human sources to identify and seize domains and servers used by the group. After taking control of the online infrastructure, the FBI was able to intercept cryptocurrency donations allegedly intended for Hamas, according to the DOJ.

Throughout the investigation, the FBI also obtained information on thousands of individuals who allegedly contacted Hamas online to donate or attempt to donate to the terrorist organization.

The DOJ said that information will be used in the FBI's ongoing counterterrorism efforts.

The case underscores how law enforcement is targeting both the funding channels and the online infrastructure used in extremist recruitment, especially as digital platforms and cryptocurrency can be used to move money and reach supporters across borders with relative speed. That makes website takedowns and wallet seizures a practical part of broader counterterrorism operations, alongside traditional investigations.

"These seizures deprive Hamas of resources it relies on to recruit and radicalize individuals online and finance barbaric attacks like the one on October 7, 2023," dijo el fiscal general adjunto para Seguridad Nacional, John A. Eisenberg.
